Start Your Online Business: You Don’t Need to Be an Expert

You Just Need to Be a Few Steps Ahead

I used to think people who built successful businesses were just…different.

Smarter. More confident. Better with money. More qualified. Born with more energy, more ideas, more support.

I wasn’t that person.
I didn’t have a niche.
I didn’t feel like an expert in anything.
And I certainly didn’t feel like someone others would listen to, let alone buy from.

But here’s what I’ve learned:
You don’t have to be miles ahead of anyone else.
You just have to be a few steps ahead of the version of yourself who was still stuck.

If you’ve overcome something, figured something out, or even started a journey others are too scared to begin…you already have something valuable to share.

You can build a business from that.
You can build freedom from that.

This is what I’m doing now. I’ve finally stopped waiting to be “ready.”

Start Where You Are

You don’t need a degree, a 10-step plan, or a polished “brand” to start building something real.

You just need the courage to be honest and take one small step.

For me, that meant:

  • Writing what I am learning in real time

  • Sharing tips that help me feel better

  • Admitting that I am still figuring it out

That’s what people actually connect with.
Not perfection. Not polish.
But honesty. Humanity. The messy bits.

If you're stuck wondering what to talk about, try this:

Instead of asking:
“What is something I know a lot about, that people want to hear?”
Ask:
“What do I wish someone had told me 6 months ago?”

That’s your content.
That’s your value.
That’s your starting point.

You Don’t Need a Perfect Product

One of the biggest things that held me back was feeling like I had nothing to offer.

I would tell myself:

“I’m not an expert in anything.”
“I haven’t had a big transformation yet.”
“Who would pay me for this?”

But here’s the truth:

You don’t need to be 10 steps ahead, you just need to be one or two.
You don’t need the perfect product, you just need a problem to solve.

Let’s say you used ChatGPT to create a simple system that helped you:

  • Wake up with more clarity

  • Stay focused with ADHD

  • Eat better with less decision fatigue

  • Feel less overwhelmed by your goals

That’s a system you can package.

It’s a solution to a real problem.
And if it helped you, it will likely help someone else.

Ask yourself:
What’s one system, habit, or mindset shift that changed things for me?”

Then break it down:

  1. What was the problem I was facing?

  2. What specific things helped?

  3. What would I tell a friend who’s struggling with the same thing?

That’s your first product.
Even if it’s just a checklist, a PDF, or a swipe file, it’s real.

And that’s what people will pay for.

You Don’t Need a Big Audience, But You Do Need to Start Talking

It’s easy to believe that no one will buy unless you have thousands of followers. And yes, big creators do have an advantage. But what they also have is content, a lot of it! They’ve shown up, day after day, sharing helpful, real, human content.

You need to build trust with your audience. Trust is built through consistency.

Here’s what I started doing (and what you can too):

  • I write from my own experience

  • I share things I am learning, trying, or struggling with

  • I offer tips I wish I had when I was struggling

Some days, only a few people see my post.
Some days, no one responds.
But I keep going.

The more I create, the more I clarify my voice.
The more I share, the more I find what resonates.
The more I show up, the more I earn trust.

Think of your content as a conversation with a friend.

Ask yourself:

  • What’s something I wish someone told me 3 months ago?

  • What’s a small win I had that others might need too?

  • What’s a myth I believed that turned out to be wrong?

Start there. Post it. Share it.
Even if you feel like no one’s listening.

People don’t just follow information.
They follow people they trust.
And trust starts with showing up.

The First Freebie I Made

I haven’t launched a paid product yet, and that’s okay.

Because what I did create was a freebie:
25 AI prompts for Self-Improvement, Focus, and Starting Over.

It’s not just a list of clever things to say to ChatGPT, but something you can use today to feel better, get unstuck, and move toward your goals.

Why Start with a Freebie?

If you’re just getting started, creating a freebie is one of the smartest moves you can make.
It helps you:

  • Start building trust with your audience

  • Give people a quick win

  • Practice creating and sharing something valuable

  • Build your email list (aka your future customer base)

You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to care about helping people.

What’s in My Freebie:

25 prompts you can plug into ChatGPT to:

  • Break through mental blocks

  • Plan your day (especially with ADHD)

  • Get motivation when you're low

  • Come up with product and business ideas

  • Stay consistent with goals like fitness, writing, or study

It’s like having a personal coach in your pocket, for free.

This Isn’t Just About Money

For me, this isn’t just about escaping a 9–5.
It’s about proving something to myself.

When you build something of your own, you reclaim your time, your energy, your creativity. You stop waiting for someone to give you permission. You stop hoping someone else will choose you.

You become the one who chooses what to create, how to live, and who you want to help.

And the best part?
You don’t have to be “successful” to start feeling this shift.
It begins the moment you take that first imperfect step.

Now It’s Your Turn

You might still feel scared.
You might still overthink.
You might not feel “ready.”

That’s okay.
So did I.
So do I.

But I still showed up.
And you can too.

Start small.
Show up again tomorrow.
And when you're ready, grab the 25 AI prompts I made, the same ones that helped me get started.
